MY NECK IS RED, HAIR IS TURNING WHITE, COLLAR IS BLUE

This is somewhat true because I lost the 70's long hair, what I have is getting grey and I don't go to work with white shirts anymore.
But doesn't the red, white, and blue run through all of you?  Sure it does or you wouldn't be reading this.  It is that time of year; we have been displaying our colors at the post, our homes, and in view of the community via our presence in the Memorial Day activities, Independence Day, on the Veterans graves at Rose Hill, and at the cemeteries for recently deceased veterans Cory Endlich and Zachary Grass.
It is refreshing to note that we had many people from the Post come out to the cemeteries, to place the flags on Veterans graves at Rose Hill and show up to show support for the two local boys' families mentioned above.  In the society we have today, people are just too busy or concerned with their own worlds to give back or donate.  It is like pulling teeth to get people to give something back.  However, even given that, if you personally ask someone to do something, often they will.  Well if that is the hand we are dealt, we have to play it so I'm asking you to help.  We have a place for everyone!  You can help even from your home, desk, basement, or car.  What can you do?  If you have a pulse we need you!  Surely you can find a cople hours a year for this proud organization.
Come to a meeting, call to ask what we need, just stop in some time, sign up a member whether it is for the Legion, the Auxiliary, or the Sons of the American Legion.  Thank you.

-Rich Patti, Commander

CONGRATULATIONS
to the newly elected and installed
Martha Lee Thatcher
Department of Ohio
2nd Vice President

And closer to home, I would like to congratulate our new slate of Unit Officers.  I look forward to working with these very dedicated, hard working ladies.  I would also like to thank everyone for their confidence and support in electing me as Unit President.  I look forward to serving you and striving to make our Unit and Post one of the Best!
As a Legion family, we have a lot to be proud of; and we should take pride in our many accomplishments.  But, there is always room for improvement, and the only way for improvement to happen is for our members to share their ideas and opinions.  Please stop by the post to fill out a short questionnaire - voice your opinion on a variety of topics.
Now is your chance to be heard!

I look forward to hearing from you,
Gail Miller, Unit President

2nd Vice Commander

The corn hole game is built and painted, and my wife, Kathryn, is sewing the corn bags now and when she finishes the game will be ready to use.
The care package pantry is full again thanks to some donations from generous people here at the Legion and money from Judge Elum's court.
Now we need addresses of service personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

DID I HEAR STEAK?

This is going to be a short and sweet article.  The S.A.L. will be holding our Steak Fry this year on Saturday, August 25th from 4pm - 8pm.  Immediately following the fry we will be having Karaoke until who-knows-when (I think the official time is 11pm).  Come out early so you can enjoy some good steak while it lasts!
Another future date you may want to mark on your calendar is Saturday, September 22nd for our next breakfast.  The menu will remain the same with all-you-can-eat scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, and home fries.  The cost of the breakfast is $5.00 and it is open to the public, so feel free to bring your entire extended family along with you (as long as they pay for themselves, of course).  Be sure to come to our next S.A.L. meeting on Wednesday, August 8th!

For God and Country,
-Ben Gutscher, Commander

John Tsocheff Memorial Museum and Library - August 2007

A phone call to John Tsocheff from Mark Palmer, telling me that Harold Grit who lives in Ravenna, Ohio has a picture of Post 221 Drum and Bugle Corps that is 7 foot long and 3 foot wide and was on the side of the bus by the corps.  It was taken off by Scotty McCartney and given to Harold Girt.  I drove to Ravenna and brought it to Post 221.  So far, I have identified 8 members and with help we will ID more.  I am not sure where I can hang such a long picture.  Perhaps you can tell me if the picture can be restored and how.  If you have knowledge of restoration, please let me know.  Help is always welcome.  It has been a slow month at the museum.  It must be too hot in your attic.

DID YOU KNOW?

Terrorist acts against the United States.

2000 - A dinghy packed with explosives rams the U.S. Cole killing 17 sailors in the Yemeni port.  Supports of Osama Bin Laden are suspected.

2000 - A bomb explodes at the U.S. Embassy in Mailla, Phillipines injuring nine.  The Moro Islamic Liberation Front is believed responsible.

P.S.  The Moro almost killed me in Zamboanga, Mindanoa, Phillipines

To be continued!
-John Tsocheff

NEW AT THE POST!  ITS A RINGER!

We now have horseshoe pits for your enjoyment.  Thanks to Dale Estep and a small band of volunteers, we now have the capability to play horseshoes.  Dale took the lead and donated the materials, his time and talents to make it happen.  A great big THANK YOU to you Dale!!  Stop by, take a look and throw a show or two.  Giddy up.
